Personal Messrs. D. G. Leng-Ward, N. Birch and J. and H. Mabey, of Palmerston North, were visitors to Shannon over the weekend to par•ticipate in play at the Buckley Golf li'nks. Preparing for Football Local footballers were busy over the weekend making preparations for the poming football season. A working bee was present at the domain clearing the ground and erecti'ng the goal posts. A Novel Broadcast When a power cut put the Horowhenua Marching Association's public address system out of commission at Foxton on Saturday afternoon during the holding of the Foxton inter-house marching championships, the assistance of a visitmg traffic patrol car was enlisted. The officer placed his car at the disposal of the association's announcer, who was able to announce the eagerly-awaited results of the competition. This was one occasion when motorists did not mind hearing "the voice" over the. patrol car's speaker.
