Brown Derby's Longburn Handicap

. The Mana w'atu Racing Clnb's Autumn Meeting, was eoncluded at Awapuni on Saturday in brilliantly fine weather and there was a large attendance, the totalisator turnover beiiig £86,440, compared with £79,753^ on the second day last year. The total for the meeting was £163,220!, as against £160,715!, the inerease being £2505. The principal race of the day was woji by Langue d'Or, which raees in the eolours of Mr. E. F. Ward, of Levin, and; is trained by C. J. Thomson, at Awapuni. Awapuni-trained' horses won three raees during the day, and the three successes:'by Taranaki horses iiicluded the open seven, which was won by Brown Derby.

Roto Parera and Gay Flame Fall Roto Parera was favourite for tlie liurdles and he and Gay Flame were ten lengths clear of Peter's Choice as tiiey rau to the last fence where Roto Parera and Gay Flame fell, leaving Peter's ' Choice to run in an easy winner by halt a dozen lengths from Tid-Apa. Phalana was four lengths further back, followea by Thunderhead. Peter's Choice made' oue bad jump live furlongs from home and Phalaria, after a bad effort at the third fence, was always under pressure. Imprint and The Pagan The Autumn Platei wras run in divisions and they were won by Imprint, from Blne Pier, and The Pagan from Blank Cheque. Old Dooley was lirst to break the line in the lirst division and Blue Pier lea to the straight from Oid Dooley, Battlemarch, Dickens, Arctic Circle, Aurora 's ■Star, Imprint and Bonny Fox. Hall' way down the home stretch Imprint moved through to challenge Blue Pier and she won by a head. Aurora 's Star was two lengths further away and next were Bonny Fox, False Step, Arctic Circle, Valliere and Old Dooley. When tlie second division had settleQ down, Audacious had charge from The Pagan, Putere, Heretic and Blank Cheque. The Pagan and Blank Cheque were with Audacious as they raced to the straight and Bonnie Fair, Fluctuation and Surf Girl were next. The leaa-. ers fought it out and The Pagan dio best, beating Blank Cheque by a long head. Audacious was two lengths away followed home by Fluctuation, Joe's Cobber (slovv away), Bonnie Fair. Langue d'Or Just Beat Ro'oin's Reward There was a grand iiuish to the Iving George Handicap and Langue d'Or, in front a furlong and a-half from home, responded to every call to beat Robin's Reward by a head. Swift Quarry was with Langue d'Or and Rosswood at the home turn but he could not foot it with Langue d'Or and Robin's Reward over the last bit and he was over two lengths away from thein at the linish. Shortly after the start Catteriek Bridge stumbled and dropped his rider and Royal Victor " set the early pace ahead of Flying Ace, Swift Quarry and Langue d'Or, Rosswood and Robin's Reward. The pace was not on for six furlongs and Flying Ace then went to. the front and he was clear of Royai Victor, clear of the others as they turned into the back. The pace was riglit on at the lialf mile where Langue d'Or and Rosswood moved forward with Swift Quarry. The three led into the straight followed bv Flying Ace Robin's Reward and Goodv Two .Shoes. Master Fox Finished Well Blithe Spirit was favourite for the Cloverlea Nursery but she was beaten into second place by Master Fox after a long delay before* the tapes went up. Beckon, Brantford and Lochrea were lirst to break the line and Blithe Spirit was shaken up to go with them. Blitlie Spirit and Lochrea led into the straight followed by Master Fox, Cheery Lass and Beckon. Lochrea did not go on with it and Master Fox went pasi Blithe Spirit and won decisiveiv by two lengths. Beckon llnished well a length away froiii the second horse. Brantford was fourth and Lucy Bian was next. Paganini — From Mesalliance ana Yandra

There was a blanket finisli to the Adderstone Handicap and the favourite, Paganini, won by a neclt from Mesalliance and Yandra which deao heated for second. Persuade made the running from the start and Mesalliance, Yandra, Moutoa Lord, Transmittei ' Paganini, Filature, Theolateral, Baiucn and Delinquent followed in that order out of the straight. Craven improvea along the back and he was behind Peisuade and Mesalliance ahead of Barucl. and Yandra as they turned for home. The issue was well in doubt a tui long from the line and Paganini, with a last run, scored by a neck from Yandra and Mesalliance. Gay Lena was a ciose fourth just in front of Night Foe. Attractlve Effort by Welcome Guest Welcome Guest won the Te Wanaka Handicap and there was a d'esperate battle for second, Sheilwyn hanging on long enough to beat Cincture by half a head. Flak, Gyration, Lackamor, Welcome Guest, , Blackwater, Sheilwyn anu Selas was the early order. There wao little change as tliey rau to the halt where Welcome Guest and Sheilwyn were in attendance on Flak and Lackamor. Gyration was in third place as they ran to the straight and Selas, Ciuoture and Fen were all in the pieture. Sheilwyn went through along the raiis and was in charge a furlong from home but Welcome Guest tackled her and won nicely by a neck. Over the last bic ■Sheilwyn was under a hard ride to beat the fast-finishing Cincture. Selas was a good fourth and next home were Fen, Monito and Flak. ' Brown Derby Just Beat Theiolyn There was another close finish in the opqn seven and Brown Derby got tne decision from Theiolyn by half - a head. Sorrei was third just over a length further back. Skyhawk was the early leader from Cooraclare. Lord lheio, ■Sorrei, Dymondy, Emerge, Theiolyn, Trig Point, Argumentative, .Fort Koyai, Hadrian, The Grand and Brown DerDy. Genghiz Khan and Incline were well back. Brown Derby began to move up at the faT turn and he was in fifth place behind Lord Theio, Sorrei, Haariau and Skyhawk at the home turn..
