Long lace skirts dragged in the mud aml the rain splashed expensive siik stockings and soaked picture hats. Men tried to shelter their grey toppers under nevvspapers. Offici als conferred uhether to cancel the party but the King requested .it to eontinue. The rain almost stopped before their Majesties arrived but a drizzle fell while they .valking round the grounds.
