Theatre Screenings As a result of the electricity restrictions Tuesday and Thursday matinees as the Regent Theatre. will be discontinued as from and including Tuesday next. Saturday matineees will continue, but will commence at 1.15 p.m. as fiom and including Saturday, April 5. The restrictions will operate only until the power situation improves. Ten-Year Plan On Thursday next representatives of the local authorities in the Manawatu, Horowhenua and Wairarapa areas will meet in Palmerston North to hear the Minister of Works, Mr. Semple, explain the regional development plan the Government iias in view for these districts over iffie next ten years. It is understood -that a number of the proposals contemplated affect i^he Horowhenua district. Christian Witness Campaign . - The campaign conducfed in the Welcome I-Iut has been so weli responded to by Levin residents that the evangelist, Mr. Enoch Coppin, has received may requests to continue longer. • This is under consideration and; some announcement may be considered next week-end. There will be no mid-week .meetings this week owing to the Laster holidays. The campaigner is particularly pleased with the excellent behaviour of the ^children, large numbers of whom have attended the after school session. Heavier Power Cuts As was to be expected, the colder weather over the past few days has sky-rocketed electricity consumption in the Horowhenua district, and more drastic rationing will operate during the . week-end. The extent to which the. increased cuts will be made^ depends o'n^the situation at the time, but the manasringsecretary of the Horowhenua Power Board, Mr. R. A. Frederikson, said late yesterday afternoon that the saving would probably be made by the extension of *he present three half-hour cuts daily to a duration of 45 minutes each and the imposition of a fourth similar cut. Harvest of Schnapper A tidal wave on a small scale was experienced on Mahia. Peninsula on Wednesday morning. Eye-wit-nesses estimate that the wave which was not of great height, commerrced frorrr two miles out at sea, -bringing with it hundreds of schnapper and many stingrays, which came up on the beach between Kaiwaitau Block and Te Mahanga, a distance of 10 or 12 miles. As the waters reeeded the fish were left stranded and residents were soon busily engaged in bagging their catches. The schapper were of huge dimensions, the majority turning the scale at 151b. to 201b., whilst several were of 281b. to 321b. Rehabilitation Loans Recovering from the influence of the holiday period m January, when they dropped to £791,851 for the - month, rehabilitation loan authorisations made during February were valued at £1,090,470. This figure brings the current total of authorisations to £34,369,471. The current totals of loans tor various purposes bringing up the £34,369,471 now authorised are as follows:— Housing £16,405,977 (£8,681,746 for the purchase of existing dwellii^gs and £7,724,231 for the erection of new homes); for the purchase or establishment of farms £13,481,897; for the purchase or establishment of businesses £2,570,213; free-of-interest furniture loans £1,826,971; \ free.-of-interest tools of trade loans £33,155; and miscellaneous advances £51,158.
