MAGNITUDE OF QUAKE.
WELLINGTON, March 27. It appeared from the record that, at its centre, yesterday 's earthquake in the Poverty Bay area was equivalent to a minor destructive shock of seven on the Alercalli s'cale and eight on the Rossi-Porel scale, statcd the Dominion Observatory today.
