LANGUE d 'OR AND BROIEFIELD GALLOPED A MILE Heavy rain which has fallen since Tuesday night has taken the sting out of the going at Awapuni and the course proper* with the flags nearly 40 feet out, was in demand yesterday for the final gallops which were witnessed hy a very large crowd. of racing enthusiasts. One of the first gallops was that of Langue d'Or (V. J. Sellars) and Broiefield (W. J. Broughton). It was over nine furlongs dnd the pace was steady froni; the statt. From the mile they rau to the five in 4-isee., and they were home in 1.7 4-5 together- to complete in 1.51 4-5. , Flying Ace (J. Garth) •galloped a mile alone in 1.53 2-5 and the pade was steady at just under 15 to tlie f urlong all tEfough. ' ) ... " Another interesting trial over h mile was that of Selas (J. CasapDeJi), Paganini (Moore) and Blue Moon (Broughton). Paganini attended the other two to the three, reached in 1.12, and Selas and Blue Moon came hojne exceptionally. well' in 42 to eojnplete in - 1.54, Paganini beihg several ichgths away at the fliiish.
Catterick Bridge (Gi. B. Tattersall) and Ballihagh> (VV. L, Aithen) were partnered in another tine trial. They jogged on.ee rouiid anj moved off just short of the ' seven: Ca'tterick Bridge was on the outer and they were on terms at tlie three, reached in 55 3-5, and they were home in 42 sec. to. conlplete in 1,37 3-5. Ballinagh was just in front at the post but Catterick Bridge was galloping.very smoothly and easily. Another ,of the top-line gallops was that of Swift Quarry (Sellars) and Chief Kobin (Garth). It was over five furlongs and they were . going well enough to suggest that they could have improved on 1.9 2-5 for five furlongs. Opulent (Broiighton) had Glcn Urquhart (S. Waddell) as a companion for three of five furloiigs, but Opulent drew away from the home turn to complete in 1.7 2-5, the last tliree in 40 4-5. Tula (11. Sauiidefs) and Persuade were home in 44*'to cover a mile in 1.55. Itoto Parera and Phalaria took 1.40 3-5 for seveii, the* last three in 44.. Czarinh (Eout) was going kindly at the end of seVen in 1.41 4-5.-Monito (L. J;. He travels decepiively fast, for he looked to be doing three-quarter pace work. He took ,41 2-5 for the first three and 41 3-5 home., Great Trek has gone back to Greenmeadows. He do.es not race again until next seasoh. , Aurora 's Star (Clutterbuck) and Earnbridge (Harrison) covered five iA 1.8 4-5, and tliey went well over the last three in 41 3-5. Lord Bradbury (Broughton) and Pellmeer (S. AVaddell) wasted littlc time getting off the mark for their fivefurlong flutter. They put the first two behind in 28, the last three in 40 3-5, and the five in 1.8 3-5. ' Playtos (F. Cleaver) worked exceptionally well. .He Went five with Dymondy (Garth), They Were together at the home turn but Playtos drew away over the last bit to complete in 1.7 4-5, the last three in 39 4-5. Sorre.l (Sellars) and Lochrea (Tattersall) sprintcd three in 40 2-5. Commercial (Mackie) and Incheape (B. Bofeham) worked over five in 1.12 1-5, the last three in 44 1-5. Craven (Cleaver) worked quietly over seven with the pace ihcreas'ed for the last two. The time for the full distance was 1.39 2-5, and that . for the last two 27 2-5. Swift Fox and Bonny Fox sprintcd four in 54 2-5, and they were home attractively in;40, whicli was good. Skyhawk "and Gay Flame were schooled, the latter being giv'en a shot at the ' ' couhtry. " Among those to gallop in the dawn were Blaiik ChequC (S. Waddell) and Arctic Cirele (A. BoWnOSs). They were timed to run five on the trial gras3 in about 1.8 "2-5. Cincture (S.' Waddell) was another to gallop on the tfial grass. She covered the distance in 1.39 2-5, the iast six in 1.26.
