U.S. WOOL GROWERS SEEK GUARANTEED PRICE
Received Thursdav, 7 p.m. WASHIN GTOX, March 26. If United Ktales refused to grant a wool subsidy, the American wool growers would not have to compote with ind'ividual woolgrowers of Australia, South Africa-and Xew Zealand but with the Governments of those countries, Senator .Joseph O'Mahoney (Democrat, Wyoming) claimed today at a mceting of the Senate agricultural coinmittee which is examining wool Jegislation. Senator O 'klahoney said it was the responsi bilitv of tlie United States Government to make sure that the American free enterprise system did not suft'er in competition with State monopolies and added that Britain was now sending Empire wool to places like rtaly and Gzechoslovakia to have it processed on a commission basis, and then sending manufactured articles on to America as British goods. It is understood that the Agriculture and State Departments both favour the (') 'Mahoney Bill which stipulated that the Government should buy the American wool elip on a long term basis at a ^uaranteed priee with authority to sell 't. at prices low enough to eompete with ,oreign wool.
