WELLINGTON, March 21. The trawler Euturist lias been declared a total loss and no effort will bt made to shift the stranded vessel from its present resting place on Loug Poin; Reef. This information was received today from Mr. R. H. Alward, managing director of New Zealand Fisheries, who said that when Captain A. Sutherland lia.il made his report to the owners il was decided to abandon the vessel. Captain Sutherland stated that the Futurist's hull was so badly damaged that she would probably sink in a few moments if taken from the reef. He did not think it would he possible to recover anything from the vessel before it broke up. The Futurist's grounding will be the subject to a departmental inquiry which will decide whether or not there are grounds for a magisterial inquiry.
