HOMESERVICEMEN GATHER
^ ANNUAL REUNION DINNER The social room at Messrs. A. L. Williams, Ltd., was the scene of a very successful function on Saturday last, when the Levin branch of ihe New Zealand Homeservicemen's Association held its annual reunion. The function, ' which this year took the form of a dinner and dance, was well attended by members, their wives and friends, and they thoroughly - enjoyed the cvening. Visitors present included . the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, Mr. and Mrs. E. Hogg, Mr. H. J. Lancaster and Mr. and Mrs. R. P. W. Garner. Apologies were received from Mrs. Burdekin and from Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Williams. * - Prior to the commencement of the function the loyal toast, proposed by the branch's president, Mr. H. A. Fenn, was honoured. At the conclusion of the dinner, the Mayor ( proposed the toast of the local branch of the Homeservicemen's Association. After remarking upon the growth and work of the local branch since its inception, Mr. Burdekin made reference to the appeal which is shortly to be made by the Levin branch of the R.S.A. to ■ provide food parcels for needy ex-service-men in Great Britain. He asked members present to support the forthcoming effort as far as lay in their power. Mr. Fenn replied to the toast. He thanked Mr. Burdekin for his references to the local branch and its activities. The president also '.nformed the assembly that sufficient interest was not being displayed by members in the efforts of the executive committee to retain their support. Functions had been arranged but had not been well attended. This discouraged the committee in its efforts, and also resulted in financial losses to the branch. "If you have enjoyed yourselves this evening," he continued, "you can show your appreciation in a tangible way by attending the annual business meeting in May, when we can engage in a full discussion on local branch activities." Mr. Garner, Dominion councillor for the central district, proposed he toast of "Kindred Services." This was replied to by Mr. Lancaster, president of the Levin branch of the R.S.A., and Mr. E. Hogg. president of the South African War Veterans' Association. While the tables were being cleared musical items were rendered by Mr. J. Bannifig. The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing. During the serving of supper, Mr. ' Fenn thanked the musicians, Messrs. W. L. Clark, T. Hartley and C.%H. Weaver, for their services, this being endorsed by acclamation. Vf'' ytll l -f i | »
