WHAT EARTH LOOKS LIKE 100 MILES UP
Received. Friday, 9.50 p.m. NEW YORK, March 21. The morning papsrs today print reproductions of the highest aerial photograph ever niEtde. It was taken from a V2 rocket at an altitude of 100 miles. jtt shows the curvature of the earth and more than 200,000 square miles of the United States ahd Mexico. The camera was part of over 2000 ibs. of scientific equipment which was installed in a rocket launched at White Sands, the proving ground in New Mexico on March 7. The camOra operated automatically and an infrared filter was used to cut the haze. Search parties spsnt several days in locating the camera and the rest of the equipment which were scattered over several miles of desert.
