CAR LOST BY FIRE
DRIVER'S NARROW ESCAPE Returning by car from Wellington this week, Mr. V. Kirkbeck, of Levin, was fortunate to escape injury when his .vehicle caught fire while travelling through Ngaio. The sole occupant of the car, Mr. Kirkbeck was unaware that anything was amiss until stopped by a following car, the driver of which drew his attention to the volumes of smoke issuing from beneath the engine. He had barely time to get 61ear of the vehicle before it burst into flames arid thotigh a fire brigade was called from Khandallah the flames had gained such a strong hold that nothing could be done tq save the vehicle, whieh was a total "wreck. It is understood that the vehicle was hot fully covered by insurance and Mr. Kirkbeck also Iost some personal belongings. Faulty wiring is believed to have been the cause ot tne mishap.
