OTAKI BOWLING CLUB

MEETING OF COMMITTEE A meeting of the committee of the Otaki Bowling Club was held on Tuesday night, Mr. W. Wilson presidrng. It was reported that Mr. Horton, green supervisor,, had visited the green unknown to anyone, but had put in a . report as to what steps snould be taken to improve the green. It was decided to give his suggestions consideration, and arrangements are to be made accordingly. It was decided to make arrangements to secure a corer from the Hutt, a further supply of grass seed and earth for topdressing. Arrangements were made for the proposed visit of the Karori Club on Saturday, March 29, and to arrange for transport to Petone to play Central. ^ It was decided to suggest to the Railway Club. that matches for the Olliver Shield take place on March 29, to be played in the morning -at the Railway green and in the afternoon on the Otaki green. It was agreed that the boarding round the green had served its usefulness, it now being in state of collapse. It was decided that something permanent be made by way of concrete, a lining to be made to protect bowls from bouncing from the bank and striking it. The president, with Messrs. Bartosh and Walsh will give the matter f-urther consideration and report back to the committee. It was resolved that the green be closed for play from April 12, and thus allow time for necessary work to be carried out in readiness for next season. Reference was made to the success of Ron. Merwood, a member of the club, who had proved runwup in the junior championship singles at Weliington. It was considered that with a little more experience he would have won. It was reported that transport arrangements had been made for the Petone trip, a bus having been engaged which would leav: the green at 8.30 am. Tourriament at Railway Another tournament will be held on the Railway green on March 30, starting at 10.30 a.m.
