R.S.A. PLANS TO SEND FOOD PARCELS
Following on its action in accepting a suggestion by the N.Z.R.S.A. io adopt an English town to which food parcels could be sent, the Levin R.S.A. has appoinced a special committee which has iUrmulated plans for the raising of money for such parcels. It aims ultimately to sena a minimum of 25 parceis a month, and is anxious rn despatch immediauely as many parcels as possible to provide relief for distressed families of exservicemen. A sum of £50 has aiready been. donated by the Levin R.S.A., and an appeal is made to all ex-service-men and other interested persons co help maintain a steady flow of parcels by donations in money or goods. Servicemen can also take -.he responsibility of financing a parcel or portion of a parcel, and any person doing so is permitted to mciucte a personal note. Donations of produce for subsequent sale on a sireet stall would, also be very acceptable. It is pointed out that parcels sent to the town concerned, Broughton Selford, England, will not be distributed there, but sent to individual addresses which have been jupplied by the Soldiers' Leagqe in England. The appeal for donations is not confined to ex-servicemen, but is open to all persons or interested bodies who may wish to assist in this very worthy cause. Donations of all types will be accepted at the R.S.A. Rooms, Oxford Street, on Tuesdays between 10 a-m. and 1 p.m. and on Fridays between 7 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. Apart from these hours, Mr. J. A. Corbishley has been authorised to collect donations at the office of Messrs. Burdekin and Walker. The Levin R.S.A. is very anxious to give all the assistance within its power to help alleviate the distress of their comrades in Britain, and this voluntary gesture will do much to cement lasting friendship between members of the two associations. In order to place the parcel's fund on a sound financial basis, it is intended to conduct a street and shop day in June, this having aiready been approved by the Borough Council. Plans have also been made to hold a dance, while mfiny 'other suggestions are being investigated. The following is a list of articles which are suitable for inclusion in parcels, and for which an appeal is made: Dripping or lard, full cream or powdered milk, tongues (tinned) , 'soap (washing, toilet or powdered) , shreddo, pastry mix, jellies, sweetened condenqed milk, tinned cheese, tinned or dried fruits, jam, treaele or golden syrup, honey, chocolate and sweets., fruit cakes (in tins), tinned meats, malted milk, sugar (coupons will " do) , tinned bacon and gelatine.
