BOWLING NOTES
TOURNAMENT AT RAILWAY The tournament promoted by the Otaki Railway Club at the weekend proved very enjoyable. The green was in perfect order and some thirteen rinks, many from distant par.ts, participated. An Otaki rink, Keay, R. Merwood, Winterburn and S. Merwood (s) , playing very fine bowls, went through to win all games, with King, Ralph, A. D. Webster and Symonds (s) runners-up. These two rinks played in the final, but Merwood's quartette had an easy win. . x R. Merwood Runner-up The final of the Wellington Bowling Centre's junior singles provided one of the highlights of the season. Brilliapt form was shown by both contestants. A M. Baillie (Lyall Bay) and R. Merwood (Otaki) , and as the president -of the centre, Mr. W. Hadwin, said, "No senior bowlers could do better," Although Baillie won by 18 — 11 on the 20th end, he had to work hard all the way. Both men's drawing was brilliant, but Merwood lacked Baillie's consistency and str'ategic qualities. Merwood led at &he third end 3 — 0, and Baillie took three shots at the fourth to draw level. At the 12th end, Merwood led 9 — 7, but at the 14th was down 9 — 11. From thcn on, Baillie forged ahead,-but both men played fine bowls to the finish.
