MR. SEMPLE IN SECOND PLACE

AUCKLAND, March 18. "It is an act of God and we must be patient in tbe meantime. I can't do anything to help tbe position by sitting in my office in- Wellington. 1 have business to conduct in other parts of the country and have left full instructions in Wellington." This was the statement by Hon, R. Semple from Greymouth this afternoon when interviewed by telephone from Auckland. Mr. Semple said it was years since New Zealand had such a phenomenally dry spell. He could not make ' rain. Everything possible was being done to keep industry running and farms in production.
