PICTURE THEATRES AND THE CUTS.
AUCKLAND, Marcli 18. A suggestioxl that a specific period without power .cuts. should be allocat'ed during the evening hours to enablc picture theatres to carry on an kbbreviated progranune, is made in a letter to the i Electricity Controller, Mr. Kissel, from the New Zealand Tndependent Cincmas Association. A special meeting of the association to discuss the pow.ee cuts.^ decided to offer ,Mr. IvABsel the-ns,sd.cla-i tion's elosfe oobp'eratioM aud to' put fdiv ward' a plan for conserving current, which involves the encouragement of tlieatre ejitertainment to save power in the homes. . ' 1 Opr members have been
particularly concerned at the absence of warning of the impending cuts and at the apparent laek of a uniform plan in the system of cuts by the various Power Boards," states the letter to Mr. Kissel. "The association considers every consumer should bear an equal portion of sacrifiee and it feeis, therefore, that it is not altogether fair that suburban and country theatres should somehow have been singled o.ut for substantial and frequent cuts." The letter suggests a period from 7.30 to 10.30 p.m. should be kept free of cuts.
