AUCKLAND, Mar. 18. A decision was made at the annual conference . of the United Fire Brigades Association to hring to the notice of the Child Welfare Department and Society for the Protection of Women and Children, the urgerit need for puhlicity drawing attention to the pra'ctice of leaving children unattended in dwellings and cars, thus subjecting thexii to the danger of uncontrolled fit'es. instances were qhoted of children left while par'ehts att'ended dances and a case was citfed in which a motlier gave a child dop'e so that it would sleep several hours. In another case a mother left a child ih a drawer when she went out. "In a fire that is the last place a fireman would look for a child," stated one delegate. Menihers also expressed concern at the fire danger in motor camps because of the congestion of tents and caravans.
