Under th§ Kktiopfil fe5eryi,ee Bill published today, British youth will serye seven years in the Army, Navy or Aii Force — 18 'months whole time and 66 months in the reserve. Conseripts during th.e latter period must giye 60 days' service. Night parades lyill count as a day's service. The normal call-up age will be 18. bqt can be varied to suit students and apprentices. The estimated intake for 1949 is 204,000 whole-time conseripts and about the same number called in annually during the following fouv years, giving Britain a standing conscript arm.Y °f .300,000 men at any given time. Miners will be the only exempt class bgt must stay in the mines betyeen the ages of 18 and 26 years. Conscientious objectors may be directed into industry for 18 months plus 60 days.
