Rugby enthusiasts are commencing their activities and the annual general meeting of the Shannon Football Club will be held in the Council Chambers this evening at 7.30 p.m. Carnival Activity The committee members of the three queens appointed for the forthcoming Fire Brigade carnival are anxiously awaiting'the opening day to commence large-scale attacks on the public of Shannon and the surrounding districts. A meeting of the three committees, to arrange dates for various functions, will be held in the Council Chambers tomonpow evening. Shannon Bowling Two rinks from the Shannon Bowling. Club competed in the Manawatu championships at Palmerston North over the weekend. Both rinks entered into the second round, but were unsuccessful in being placed in the finals. The rinks comprised: — Senior: Messrs. A. R. Mills, E. Thorne, J. A. Roach and T. Bell. Intermediate : Messrs. H. Karena, N. Batt, V. J. Bateman and A. F. Birss. Bowlers are reminded that a meeting of the club will be held in the clubhouse at 7.15 p.m. on Thursday. Plunket Baby Carnival The last of the progress reports which will be published in connection with the beautiful baby photograph contest, which is being conducted by the Shannon Plunket Society, was issued yesterday by Mrs. J. Creagh. The leading seven competitors, together with the total votes cast up to yesterday, were as follows: — No. 5, David Bateman (2022) 1; No. 11, Wendy Wishart (1721) 2; No. 24, Stuart McDonald (1607) 3; No. 17, Dawn Easton (1378) 4: No. 15, Peter and Paul Gardner (1322) 5; No. 2, Josephine Batt (1221) 6; No. 4, Helen Tremewan (1054) 7. The voting will close at 7 p.m. on Friday evening and the results will be announced at the c'hildren's fancy dress party on Saturday evening. •'
