-Press Association

By Telegraph-

WELLINGTON, Mar. 11. He certainiy hoped and bclieved that the settlement qf ex-scrvicemen on the land would be" completed well before all land pufchased for* subdivision and settlement had been developed, said the Minister of Lands and Rehabilitation, Hon. C. F. Bkinner, aot the quarterly meeting of the Rehabilitation Couneil. The Minister was r'eplving to Mr. W. Clarke (Dunedin) who instanced a case of land purchased for development in Otago which would not be ready for settleineiit until at least 1950. "Land development is a long terrn job, " said Mr. Skinner, "but we do not need to worry overmuch as we will have sullicient land to complete the task. What is retarding land settle--ment at the moment are ho.using and the shortage of fencing wire. Fertiliser is not niueh "Worry now. SomC blocks will not' be available for reliab ilitation purposes even although ' 'th'ey have - been putchstsed in recent- years. Some of the lancl recently purchased, owing 'to its nathro, will not be fullydeveloped until well after 1950 and I ain quite sure it will not be all settlod by returned servicemen. I feel sure the settlement of returned men will be completed befor^'all this type of land is ready for settlement."
