RAILROAD PRESIDENT SLAIN
NEW TOEK, Mar. 11. Mr. George P. McNear, president oi the Toledo, Peoria and Western Rai! road, which has been shut down for 17 months by the nation 's longest majoi strike, was slain by bullets from i. speeding automobile-as he was waikin; near his home at Peoria last night Thirteen railroad 'brotlierhoods ar. involved in the strike which has been marked by frequent violence includin;; shootings. In a fracas at Gridley, Illinois, 0:1 Februarv 6, 1946, two pickets were killed and three wounded aloiigside one of the company's trains. Four railroad guards were later acquitted on tnan slaughter charges.
