MARCHING CHAMPIONSHIPS
HOROWHENUA TEAMS COMPETE The marching championships held at Pahiatua on Saturday, marked the first ' appearance of Horowhenua teams in open competition, and although no tropliies were brought home the teams acquitted themselves very credit-a-bly, and- the experiqnce gained will stand them in- good stead wnen they compete at Levin on March22. Twenty-six teams competed during the course of the afternoon and- a drill display by Caledonian ( (Levin) and demonstration march by Judd's (Pahiatua) added to the enjoyment of the afternoon. The Caledonian (Levin) drill display was particularly well reeeived by the large number present, and the girls gave a fine exhibition. Smifh's (Foxton) gained third equal in the costume judging awards. Pringle's. (Pahiatua) won the open ehampionship, with Judd's (Pahiatua) second' and Lustre (Wellington) third. The champion leader was Miss 'V. Davey (Judd's) , while the costhme award went to Chapman's (Woodville) and Carrs (Petone) equal with 27 points'each. The Horowhenua Highland Band travelled to Pahiatua to play for the marching, its services being in great demand. The band played' for 18 of the 26 teams taking part.
