Over 500 Deaths Reported PRECAUTIONS EXTENDED

Received Saturday, 10.30 a.m. NEW DELHI, March 7. Twenty-seven were killed and 175 tnjured in rioting which brcke oui yesterday at Rawalpindi. Cases of arson and looting have also been reported. The Punjab authorities have extended precautions and imposed a curfew on the towns of Ferosepore and Gujranwala. Two were killed and two wounded in stabbing incidents at Lahore today. An ofRcial estimate of the casualties is not yet available, but probably between 500 and 800 have been killed throughout Punjab. The district magistrate of Delhi . Province has banned for one month the carrying of firearms and lethal weapons of any kind within the urban area of Delhi. Britain is being challenged in the Punjab to pronounce immediately for or against Pakistan, says the "Daily Telegraph's" New Delhi correspondent. The Governor. Sir Evan J'enkins, while ■ the Hindus and Sikhs are preparing civil war against the Moslems, has sent an urgent telegram asking Whitehall to elarify the long-term policy in he Punjab. The Moslems have been unable to form a Government because they could not obtain a majority without the assisfance of ane or more of the minorities, who refuse to co-onerate. The party is based- on ccmmunal exclusiveness, and committed to Pakistan.
