THREE COAL MINES IDLE

AUCKLAND, Mar. 0. Trouble spread in the Huntly district today wlieu three coal mines wero idle. Tliey were the Macdonald mine where tio work was done for the lourth day in succession, the Clen Afton niine and Alison mine at Rotowaro. Stop-work meetings lasting an Itour were held this morning at botli the Macdonald and Gleu Ai'ton mines, wlieu the Glen Afton meii decided not to work in sympathy with the Macdonaid men. A stop-work meeting lasting until 11 a.111. was also held at the Alison mine owned by Taupiri Coal Mines Ltd., and the men then returned home. No statement lias been made about the niatters discussed but it is relialdy understood that the stoppage was not related to the trouble at the Macdonald mine. More than 700 men were affected by the decisiou not to work in the threi mines today and the loss in output is conservatively estimated at 1000 tons.
