Bringing down over 300,000 tons of limestone, a large shot was fired at a cement company's quarry at Portland, near Whangarei. ' Thi£ stone will keep the works supplied for about 15 months. In all there were 48 shot holes, the deepest beihg 209ft and 30 tons of Cxplosives were used. The largest shot used in the quarry was fired about two years ago, when 36 tons of explosive were employed.
