WELLIjNGTON, Mar. 5. For the next two months or imtii after Karapiro is operating, it wouia no longer be possible to supply power ' at the present rate, said the generai manager of" the State Hydroelectric Department, Mx. Kissei; today( Despite wamings, the consumption of power had averaged nearer a nine per cent. increase tnan the three ! per cent. with which the department nad anticipated it could cope without undue difticulty. "The position now is," said Mr. Kissei, "that we have no alternative but to require all electric .supply authorities to reduce their present loading by about 10 per cent. Had tne auocations oeen reasonaoiy observed no reduction of this order would have been necessary. If no notice is taken of the need to reduce the ioad by 10 per cent. and the resources of water continue to be used up at the present rate, a 20 per cent. reduction or even more than this would very shortly be required," said Mr. Kissei. Heavy and continUbus rain in the catchment areas of Taupo and Waikaremoana would relieve the position but no certain relief could be expected until after sufficient new generating plant had been put Into operation at Karapiro and Kaitawa.
