STEVENS-JONES FIGHT UNDER SUSPENSION

The New Zealand Boxirig Council has refused to allow the tStevensdones coutest at Petone on Saturday night to proeecd, pending an inquiry into the control of boxing in the Ilutt N'alley. Announcing" this today the secretary of ihe council, 'Mr. G. P. Aldridge, said that as the position was the sub jeet of an inquiry, no further iuforma tion would be available at this. juncture. Ile expeeted a press statement to be released at the eonclusion of the inquiry. Mr. L. ritewart, chairman of the Ilutt Valley Boxing Association, said to night that he had called an emergency nieeting of his association for tomorrow niglit. "Ily association vvili welconie any inquiry," he added. Mr Stewurt said he interpreted the decision as the suspension of his associafion in the meantime. No charges had been laid against his associat.ion though he had asited for them. He considered it was only proper that an association should be advised of the reasotis wlten so dealt with. "I protested and clainted that the council was in duty bouiul to make known the chiij-ges, " said Mr. Stewart. The charges against the as.snciation would be conveyed to it at the proper inoment.
