SHANNON TENNIS CLUB

WEEK-END TOURNAMENT Over the weekend the Shannon Tennis Club conducted a very suecessful tournament, some 20 players taking part. A small entry fee was made, the proceeds going towards the Plunket baby competition.. The winners of the tournament were Mrs. R. Higgott (ladies) and Mr. K. Batt (men) . At the completion of play the vice-captain of the club, Mr. K. Bait, thanked those who had taken part and hoped they had enjoyed the afternoon's play. Mr. Batt announced that quite a reasonable sum had been handed over to the two babies of tennis club members who were entered in the baby competition. The . results of the last three rounds were as follows: A. Bell and Mrs. Martin lost to K. Batt and Mrs. Higgott, J. Chambers and Miss Burke defeated Rauhihi and Mrs. Jones, J. Bell and Mrs. Peni defeated M. Higgie and Mrs. Higgie, C. Hooker and Mrs.- Clymont lost to V. Robinson and Mrs. Baker, A. Peni and Mrs. Church lost to Martin and Miss Pedersen, Rasmussen and Miss Hennessey lost to Martin and Clough, K. Batt and Mrs. Jones defeated Rauhihi and Miss Burke, J. Chambers and Mrs. Peni lost to Robinson and Mrs. Higgie, Bell and Mrs. Martin defeated Baker and Mrs. Chambers, Booker and Mrs. Higgott defeated Higgie and. Mrs. Baker, Peni and Miss Pedersen defeated J. Bell and Miss Hennessey, Rasmussen and Miss Clough lost to Martin and Mrs. McClymont. Final round: Batt and Miss Burke defeated Baker and Mrs. Jones, A. Bell and Mrs. Peni lost to Chambers and Mrs. Martin, Higgie and Mrs. Higgie lost to Rasmussen and Mrs. Church, Robinson and Miss Hennessey defeated Rauihi and Miss Clough, Peni and Mrs. Higgott defeated Booker and Mrs. McClymont. J. Bell and Mrs. Baker drew with Martin and Miss Peder'sen. There was a time limit of 15 minutes on each game. Mangaore Ladies' Day The Mangaore Tennis Club is holding a ladies' day at its courts on Thursday afternoon, and an invitation to all lady members of the local club has been extended. Cars will leave Shannon at 1 p.m. to enable any local players to make £be trip.
