COAL CONFERENCE CALLED
Received Tuesday, 9 p.m. HYDNEY, Mar. 4. The Comnionwealth Governnient has called a special conl'erenee in Sydney for Afonday to consider tlie disputes in the coal industry. This was announced today wliile the miners' eentral executive was meeting to consider whether to reconunend a general strike. The miners' leaders are still ho.pefuJ that a general strike can be averted. fhe position has been eased slightly by the calling of tlie Afonday conference. On receipt of appeals from Air. Chifley and the Goveinment coal liaison ollicer, Air. R. James, plans are announced by the Joint Coal Board to .nake conditions more attractive, and tlie New Soutli Wliles Government plans conipensation for "dusted" miners.
