"The Federal Government is floundering still more deeplv in its efforts to e.xplain vvhy the Australian taxpayers are being called upon to subsidise to the tane of about £2,000,000 in the present vear alone, the cost of bread in Kew Zealaud, " says the Herald. "Mr. Kcully said in last week's debate that the Wheat Board had been eonsulted throughout the deal. Now the f'ormer general manager declares that the board, as such, was not eonsulted at any stage. "Mr. Seully says that even if New Zealand had gained 'some minor monetary advantage' from the agreement, no oue with a real Australian outlook would objeet. But or.e would have to possess the New Zealand and not tlie Australian outlook to appreeiate the beauties of the arrangement whereby this country is providing Dominion consumers with v heat at about 8s 9d a bushel below world price," the Herald adds.
