" ^ otaki defeat shannon A team representing the Otaki Tennis Club was successful in defeating the Shannon team in an inter-club fixture at Shannon on Saturday. The standard of tennis played during the afternoon was very high, and some closelycontested games resulted. Otaki won 116 games to Shannon's 92, but the number of sets was equal. both securing eight each. The results of the games played were as follows, Shannon players being mentioned first: — Men's singles : K. Batt lost to. C. Atmore 3—9, K. Thomson defeated B. Ryder 9 — 7, C. Booker defeated B. Rhodes ,9—8, A. Peni lost to D. A. Reader 4 — 9.
Ladies' singles: Miss K. Nepia Lost to Mrs. Bell 1—7, Mrs. D. Jones defeated Mrs. LePuni 7 — 5, Mrs. Higgott defeated Miss Lutz 7—6, Miss F. Peni lost to Mrs. Ryder 3—7. Men's doubles: Batt and Thomson defeated Atmore and Ryder 9 — 7, Booker and* Peni lost to Rhodes and Reader -5—9. Ladies' doubles: Miss Nepia and Mrs. Higgott lost to Mrs. Bell and Miss Lutz 2—7. Mrs. Jones and Miss Peni defeated Mesdames LePuni and Ryder 7 — 5. Mixed doubles : Batt and Miss Nepia lost to Ryder and Mrs. Bell 4—9, Thomson and Mrs. Jones lost to Atmore and Mrs. LePuni 4 — 9. Booker and Mrs. Hi^ott defeated Reader and Miss Lutz 9 — 7. Peni and Miss Peni defeated Rhodes and Mrs. Ryder 9 — 5.
