NELSON, Feb. 28. Fines totalling £100 were imposed by Mr. Maunsell S.M., when Morice James Lark, theatre proprietor at Wakefield, was convicted on three charges of wilfuliy making false income tax returns. I-Ie " pleaded guilty. The prosecution said defendant did not keep proper books. In three years he sliowed his taxable income as £107, £107 and £.100 whereas investigation sliowed- that his taxable income for those years was £798, £1011 and £733. The Magistrate said he rcgarded the casc as serious and would impose a penalty which would be a deterrent to o'tliers temptcd to defraud the revenue of the country.
