FEBRUARY MEETING Mrs. J. A. Easton presidea over a good attendance of members at the February meeting of the Shannon Women's Institute and extended a welcome to Mrs. Stratford, a member of the Matamau-Tataramau Institute (near Dannevirke ) , who was a visitor, and to Mrs. Church, who has been transferred from the Bunnythorpe Institute. Mrs. BHateley was welcomed as a new member. ' Mrs. Easton extended her thanks to all the helpers who prepared for the children's Christmas party or who contributed in any way to making the event such a happy one; also to the members who arranged for the standing committee and others, such a delightful aftefnon in January. Included in the correspondence was a letter from Jim Robinson, of J.-Force, thanking the local branch for the cake which they had sent him. An invitation from the Levin branch to attend their birthday party was also received. Mesdames L. Stratford and R. Roberts were appointed the delegates to attend the annual meeting of the Manawatu Federation of Women's Institutes to be held at Milson. The secretary advised that if any member wished to join the group travel party commencing on May 10 and returning on May 19, wero to send in their names and a deposit of £1 to Mrs. F. Hockiy, secretary of the Manawatu Federation. It was agreed that a class for practical dressmaking and pattern cutting be formed. Twelve names, the maximurn number for one group, were handed in. The tutor for this class will be Miss Betsy Hitchon, of the Sarah Anne Rhodes Fellowship. It was brought to tho notice of .members that the W.D.F.U. dahlia show is being held on Friday next and members were requested to give their support. Members were asked to make an endeavour to produce a tin or jar of fruit for use at the Anzac dinner to be extended to all returned service personnel. It was also decided that the proceeds from the saies table would go towards a fund to be used for the dinner. Mrs. C. Stern (treasurer) read the financial report, it was decided to contribute 10s to the Marie Stewart appeal. The president referred to a member, Mrs. M. Jensen, who had had to re-enter hospital and as a sympathetic gesture flowers will be sent to her, and to Mrs. Basil Harris, who is also in hospital. Arrangementfl were made for the 15-minute entertainment competition at the group rally to be held at Tokomaru. Nominations for the positions of president and committee were received. The penny competition was won by Mrs. W. Easton. The usual competitions were held ; and the . winners were as foliows; — Cliister: Mrs. J. Sinclair 1, Mrs. A. Richards 2, Mrs. C. Stern 3; single bloom: Mesdames C. Stern, Veale and A. E. Tremewan (equal) 1, Mrs. T. Bell and Miss Joan Radford (equal) 2, Mesdames W. Radford and J. Sinclair (equal) 3: shrub: Mrs. M. Parr 1, Mrs. C. Stern 2, Miss Joan Radford 3. The competition for the Marcli meeting will be for the bcst three runner beans. A delightful afternoon tea served by the hostesses, Mesdames I.
