POSTAL NOMINATION
NOT FAVOTJRED BY LEVIN BRANCH OF R.S.A. The adoption of a proposed new by-law pr'oviding for the nomination of officers and executive committees prior to an annual general meeting, was the subject of considerable discussion ' at an extracrdinary quarterly general meeting of the Levin R.S.A. on Wednesday night. The majority of those present were agains-t any change in the present system, as they considered it would entail a certain amount of "voting on the blind" and that a certain amount of graft may result by a committee deciding to keep themselves in by ensuring that their nominations went forward. It was also suggested that such a system would entail consider-r abel more expense and result in added work 'for the secretary, "On the other hand it was pointed out that the postal system of nomination ~"was being used by many associations now, and it might tend to bring more members along to the annual meetings. Under the present method on a tenth part of the 1 members were nominated and this was not considered democratic. Those in favour of the introduction of the new system estimated that there would be keener competition for the positions. After considerable discussion the proposal was outvoted by a considerable majority. A suggestion was made by Mr. A. Colquhoun that the executive committee should incorporate representatives for the north and south of the district, as country members were not ensured representation. After some discussion it was -agreed that the suggestion "go forward ?n the form of a motion which could be presented at the annual meeting before the re-election of officers.
