CLARK GABLE OBJECTS
Clark Gable, who has lost 201b in weight since.he made "Adyenturej" which he recalls 'with a shudder, .s a gain on the M.-G.-M. set, working , in "The Hucksters." His first. bit of acting was to kiss veteran characler actress, Connie Gilcfirist. Gable insisted on "The Hucksters" being rewritten before he accepted the role. He eonsiders the original book "Not even entertainmcnt." • Gable's objections extended beyond his own role (that of j radio advertising producer/ to the role of production assistair;, takea by Adolphe Menjou. The characLer taken by Menjou was girl-mad' in the film, Menjou's v/olfishness has been curbed. With an eve to the censor M.-G.-M. had to alt«r other points in the story. Main correction is making Deborrah Karr a widow instead of a woman who had an affair with the hero bshind hef nusband's back. The reason for Gable's fussSness is that he regards "Advent'ire" one of his two worst failures (the other was "Parnell"), and declares that "The Hucksters must make p'eopie to forget it.
