NAPIER, Feb. 26. ' Commentiug that the incoiue aud social security taxation laws were overdue for a complete review, Alr. C. H. Perkins, in his presidential address at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Society of Accountants, advocated that a eominittec or commission should bo set up to inquire into the whole position. Alr. Perkins declared that tho present impost ou uuearned income, particularly wlien it foll on widows and retired people with small incomes, was a distinctly inequitable method of taxat'ion. Diseussing the Dominiou's trade with overseas -countries, Alr. Perkins said: "We cannot expect that the prewar system of trade ean be fully r.estored iii view of the profound changes associated with the war years. No eountry is more dcpendent on world trade than New Zealand' so we have a lot to gain from possible econouiic progress in dilferent parts of the world. There are regions where such dcvelopment is taking place and it will be to our advantage if we open up trade with theni. " Alr. Perkins added that the Dominion should uot rekdily assume that a future for its exports was really assured, in view of Britain's difficult econouiic situation and in view also of the strongly emerging eompetition of. substitutes for wool and butter.
