enjoyable function

A very enjoyable party was held ih St. Mary's Hall on Thursday of last week, the- oecasion being the twentieth birthday of the Levin Women 's Institute. Mrs. Kellaway,. the president, extend'ed a welcome' to all guests and presentd a bouquet to Mrs. Burdekin, the Mayoress. A telegram conveying greetings= was rec'eived from Mrs. Powell,. federation president, at present on holiday. Every one joined heartily in singing the institute song, and then followed' an excellent programihe''. Messrs. Ja'mes, Townrow and Lumiey, from Otaki, sang solos, du'ets and tri'os-, which were' Very much enjoyed. The ju-nior' .circle presented a short play eiititled "Everyone Comes to Mabei," the cast being Mis'ses Newman, Harrisott, Powell, Tabor,. Johnson, Cldpcoft a-nd McD'onafd. The' play presented by the seni'or' members was en'titl'ed "The Cufse o.f cai'ro," the follbwihg fakihg part: -Mesdames Bott, Bowater, Nichol, ' Wil'kin'son , and Misses Powell and Wrlliams. Miss Bl'enkhorn produced the junior play and Mrs. Savell the senior. The birthday cake, made by Mr. and Mrs. Sharp, looked very elegant with its twenty ca'ndles, which W6re li!ghtedT by represontatives of other institutes an'd women's orgailisations around Levin. The Mayor had the privileg'e of extinguishihg them, which he did Successfully in one efiort. Following this Mrs. Spencer, vicepresident of the exeeutive, cut the cake. . y
