Enterprise? "I had scarcely finished readmg an account of the choice of Levin as the site' for the new sanatorium, when I had an enquiry-as to the owners of property opposite the land," said the town clerk, Mr. H. L. Jenkins, during a discussion on the sanatorium by the Levin Borough Council last night. House Numbefiiig In spite of repeated requests there are still a large percentage of Levin householders who have not yet erected their house numbers, according to a report presented at last night's meeting of the Levin Borough Council. Apart from this being ~ a comp.ulsory_ obligation, considerable inconvenience _ would be avoided by compliance with the order. Breaches of . Copyrights That certain Palmerston North heatrical societies .had been given performanees ofmlays without the consent of the feopyriglit hbldek/ and without payment of royalties, was the information conveyed to the Palmerston North City Council last night by the city solicitors. The town clerk (Mr. J. R. Hardie) reported that a copy of the solitors' letter had been forwarded to the various societies. The council decided to request its solicitors to draft a suitable clause to bs embodied in the terms for the let ■ ting of the Municipal Opcra House. Bandsmen's Record A membership which is believed to be unique in New Zealand ba*nd history is claimed for four members of the Blenheim Regimental Band, which is taking part in the New Zealand championship contests in Wanganui and will partici - pate in the B grade section. These members, who are again visitirr* Wanganui after having played in previous contests there, are Bandsmen S. Marston F. Holdaway- and E. Laking, -and Band-Sergeant F. E. Sheridan. Each has been associated with the Blenheim Regimental Band for a period of 40 years or more and is known in band eircles throughout the Domihion. Gate Crasher Caught One gate crasher to Cook's Gardens, Wanganui, for the concert marking the opehing of band week was caught and ordered off the grounds by the police, Boy Scouts were responsible for this, and they were working to a preconceived plan of action which proved itself an efficient means of combating the fence-jumping habit. Operating in pairs, Boy Scouts were posted at various vantage spots on the grounds. When the gate crasher gains his illicit entry to the grounds one of the Scouts trails him and the other notifies th? police. This is what was done and the culprit, when accosted by the police, admitted that he had not paid, and was ordered off the ground. A Questioii' of Authority "Twelve months on the island is 1oo long. IT1 do six months, your Worship." 'This earnest remr.rk was made by Joseph McCafthy. cook, of Linton Camp, when he pleaded guilty in the Magbtrate's Court, Palmerston North, yesterday morning to a charge of being found drunk. Senior Sergeant R. ludley explained that McCartby was a good cook, but every time he came into Palmerston North he becarne drunk and "visited the poliop sta--tion." A term on the "island" was recommended. "I'll decide what term you shall do," Mr. C. C. Mar~ "ack. S.M., told McCarthv. A further suggestion from the senior sergeant that McCarthy shm.ld be nrohibited was qccepted by the Magistrate, who prohibited McCarthy* for 12, months, and r/arhed him that if he came before the coiirt within that period he would be sent to the island for a long 9 period.
