CHRISTCHURCH, Ftr,. 2$. Playing eoiisistently steady golf A. J. Shaw (Hastings) returned a fourth rouncl score of 71 at Shirley yesterday afternoon to win the Christchurch Professional Golf Tournament and the Provineial Professional title. Shaw went round yesterday afternoon with N. H. Fuller (Russley) who, after a rceord-breaking flrst round of 67 on Friday. morning, led the field until }resterday afternoon when, after a 5 and an 8 at the first two holes, Jie lost touch and fmished with, 83. Second plaee was filled by A.^Murrgy (Auckland) who carded a 72 yesterday afternoon to flnish with an aggregate of 294 — one strolce behind Shaw. Murray might liave won had he not put his ball into the hedge near the fourt.eenth green. This mistake cost hira two strokes. W. Allbon (Auckland) was third with 297 and B. J. Smith (InyercarIgill) 298 was fourth. I Shaw scored birdies at the secoud, jeighth, tenth and fourteenth holes.' j Fuiler started off badly with 5 at the | flrst hote. He got into a bunker at the second and his attenipt to get' oue ianded him right under the lip of the bunker in an un'playable position. This cost him two strokes for tlie diop-out. There were occasions when Fuller showed gfimpses of the earlier fprni which had )mt him at the head of the field but he was unable to "niaintain this form. Shaw on the other liand made iiardlv any errors and -his all-round form uas excellent. His driving was straight and true, his short game-. was I I sound, and he seldom took niore tlian two putts. The strong nortli-easterlv wind troubled the players but the conditions otherwise were excellent. The greens were fast ancl- there was quite a lot of run 011 the fairwavs. J. D. hlclntosh (Wellington), who jumped from sixth to second plaee as a result of a steady 74 yesterday morning, returned 81 in this roiind and was not among the place-getters. His. game generall.v was good but he dropped sirokes by taking three putts on each or seven successive greens. All the other players made oecasiohal lapses which added strokes to theii score but the gencral standard of golf was good. The scores for the third and fourth. rounds and the aggregates were as under: — ' ■
