Doyle, Vogel Street. Mr. and Mrs. W. Whiteman, of Gisborne, were visitors to Shannon during the past two or three days. During their stay they were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Peach; Ballance Street. Plunket Carnival Voting The third progress report of the votipg in the Plunket Society's beautiful baby competition was announced last evening by the secretary, Mrs. J. Creagh. The position of the leading baby is not altered, but there is a change in the others. The placings are now as follows: — No. 5 (David Bateman) 1, No. 17 (Dawn Easton) 2, No. 11 (Wendy Wlshart) 3, No. 2 (Josephine Batt) 4, No. 20 (Beverley' Robinson) 5, No. 26 (Mastcr Woodmass) 6. Counlry Queen Appointed The appointment of Miss Helen Gardner to represent the country people in the forthcoming Fire Brigade queen carnival, was announced by Mr. L. Burling, chairman of the country committec. following a meeting of his committee the other evening. The town committee still has to appoint their representative. Although the carnival does not officially commence until March 24, all committees are busy arranging their future activities. It is expected that when the flag goes up things will be happening fast around Shannon. Arrangements are well in hand for the holding of a monster gala day on Easter Saturdav, the proceeds,5of which will be divided evenly amofig the three queens. It is expected that. among other attractions, the Hor.owhenua girls' marching teams Will give displays on the domain.
