REQUEST FOR PETROL TAX REDUCTION
WELLINGTON, Feb. 20. A resolution was passed at the half vearly meeting of the North Islan.l Motor Union in Wellington today, pro posing that further reprcsentations should be made to the. Government for a reduction of petrol taxation. ''In Soutli Africa," said Mr. W. A. Sutherland (Wellington), "tlie petrol tax has been reduced by 3d a gallon, and in Australia by ld for an interiiu period Avith a promise of a further reduction. The total tax on petrol in South Africa /is -8M a gallon. ?,iid in Australia 10-Id a gallon, while in New Zealand it remains at 14.7d a gallon."
