Trots Resume At Hutt Park
L.M.M.)
(Special — From
WELLINGTON, Friday. The recent southerly storm did not materially affect racecourses in the North Island, and with the fine weather of the past f ew days reports from Hawera, Woodville, and Te Aroha indicate that conditions will be good for tomorrow's racing. At Hawera the Egmont Club will open its fixture, while at Woodville the local club will conciuot its two-day meeting. At each of these gatherings excellent fields are carded, especially so at Woodville where it has been found necessary to provide divisions for three of the events. Other important meetings tomorrow are those at Te Aroha and Dunedin. After an absence of six years, the Wellington Trotting Club, which had been using the Trentham racecourse during the war period until. 1945, will resume its meetings on its own course at Hutt Park to-. morrow, when it will open its summer meeting. Trentham racecourse was considered by light harness adherents as unsuitable for trotting as the public experienced great difficulty in following the races, due to the rails being too high. Now back at Hutt Park, the public will gain a much better view throughout a race, the course railings being specially constructed for this purpose. The club has executed magnificent reconstruction work with buildings and the course at Hutt Park, which was in a shocking state when handed over by the Army. With a continuance of fine weather, Hutt Park will prove a great draw card tomorrow — in fact a double attraction, as in the evening the Bos Murphy v. Willie Jones boxing contest will be staged on the Petone Recreation ground.
