WANGANELLA ON BLACK LIST

WET.UifGTON, Feb. 20. I The Wanganella was declared black today by offieials of seven trade unions and workmen doiiig repair work 011 the vessel in the fioating doclc left their jobs just after 2 o'eloek. Discussious for a settlement of the dispute are probable tomorrow. A stop work meeting Was addressed by union offieials and the men agreed to continue to refuse work 011 the vessel until tlie Australian seamen who struck on Tuesday for special danger rates, were given satisf action. Mr. E. V. Elliott, Federal secretary of the Australian Seamen 's Union, said in the afternoon that lie Avas still waiting to hear wliether Captain McDonald, salvage officer 011 tiie ship, would be prepared to meet union representatives. Until he did New Zealand workmen had declared they would continue to consider the ship black. M11. Elliott said that, 011 behalf of the seamen of Australia, he wanted to express apprec.ialiou of the line trade union spirit of the workers on the Wanganella in their ready support of his. men. Gapt.ain McDonald, asked tonight what his attitude was,. said that he and the other salvage official on the ship, Mr. D. E. Eadie, would see Mr. Elliott and other union offieials in the morning. The workefs involved in the dispute are engitieers, boHermakers, sliipwrights, plumbers, Harbour Board em ployees, painters and wat.erside carpen ters.
