MANY VISITORS EXPECTED
SOCIAL TO MR. & MRS. LOWRY Many well-known personalitics are expected to be in Shannon on Thursday evening to attend th social evening which is being extended to Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Lowry in the Druids' Hall. The town clerk (Mr. J. T. Bovis) has received word from the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, Mr. M. H. Oram, M.P., and Mrs. Oram, and Mr. E. T. Tirikatene, M.P., advising that they intend being present. The chairman of the Manawata County Council tendered his regrets that he would be unable to attend, but he would be represented by Mr. W. E. Barber, a member of the council. Mr. G. A, Monk, chairman of the Horowhenua County Council is also unable to be present, but he will be represented oy Cr. J. II. P. Liggins, of Tokomaru. Mr. R. R. Lind will represent the Horowhenua Power Board at the function.
The committee responsible for arranging the function has prepared an excellent evening's entertainment. A concert programme will be presented for the earlier part of the e.vening, and will be followed by the addresses to M-;. and Mrs. Lowry. After the completion of supper a dance programme has been arranged, the music for which is being supplied by a fourpiece dance orchestra. The public who intend attending the function are^ requested to occupy their seats 'for the concert programme by 8 p.m. sharp.
