COTTON MILLS SEEK FOREIGN WORKERS
Received Tuesday, 7 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 18. Four recrniting experts are leaving by air for Vientia 011 February 18 in ar effort to obtain volunteer labour for thc Laneashire cotton mills where the Jab our shortage is estimated at nearlj 100,000 says* the Times' Alanchestei correspondent. The mission, which if sponsored by the Government, will tour displaced persons' camps in AustrR and Italy but has no powers to brinj back foreign workers until a full agree ment is reached between tlie Government, Cotton Board, emploj'ers anc British operatives. The existing fue shortage which has thrown thousands of Manchester cotton operatives out oi work, precludes any likelihood of imme diate, action, but it is understood th( trade unions do not object to a smal number of foreign workers being em ployed subject to safeguards being ar ranged for their members.
