MARATHON WALK ACROSS AUSTRALIA

Received Monday, 10 55 p.m. SYDNEY, Feh. 17. George Lockv/ood, an Adelaide letter carrier, today completed a hike of 2G91 miles from Fremantle to Sydnew in 97 days. He beat the record estahlished in 1934 hy 64 days. Rockwood said he liad averaged 39 miles daily until he reached Kalgoorlie and from tlien on he dropped to thirty daily. He wore out six pairs of hoots and twelve pairs of socks.
