SHANNON PLUNKET SOCIETY

The monthiy meeting of thc local suo-br'anch of ttj Plunket Society was held last Monday afternoon. Those present were Mesdames L. W. Wilson (president) , J. Creagh (secretary) , E. Barber, F. Edmonds and C. Tremewan . A resoluiion was pasoed thr.t the Plunket Rooms be let as a consulting room to the resident doctor, who expects to commerce practice in Shannon about the middle oi next month, the rooms to be let sxclusive of Thursdays and on the afternoon whon the monthiy meetings were held. Mrs. Creagh was directed to write to Mrs. E. Chester, a member of the committee who is ill. It was reported that ,of the 30 babies and toddlers who were photographcd, only 18 to ctate haa entercd lor the beautiful baby contest which was being held to raise Shannon's quota of £40 towards, liquidating the debt on the Karitane Hospital. It is hoped that all other moihers will do their bit by sending their babies' photographs to the secretary, Mrs. Creagh, immediately for inclusion in the competition and thereby help to raise the funds which are so necessary if the Karitane Hospital ls to carry on its excellent work. Progress reports of the six leading babies only will be advised from time to time. The Plunket ROoms will be available up to March 8 for any funetion for raising money in ccnnection with the competition. The committee decided to give a euchrc party in Laurvig's Hall on Thursday afternoon next, the proceeds to ' be divided evenly among the entrants. Afternoon tea will bo served. The nurse's report for the month of December was as follows: — "Visits to Shannon 3, visits of adults to rooms 41, babies to rooms 41, pre-school children to rooms 4 and visits to homes 8. The- general health of the babies was very good." The report for January was as follows: — "Visits to Shannon 4, visits to homes 10, adqlts to rooms 59, babies to rooms 48, pre-school children 8. There were two new babies. The attendance at the officc was good. There has been a lot of summer siekness among babies and tocldlers."'
