DROUGHT AREA IS NOW A MUDDY BOG

Received Thursday, 9 p.m. SYDNEY, Feb. 13. The deluge whicH has hroken the drought in northwestern hTev/ South Wales, now threatens severe flooding on all northern rivers. A cyclone v/hich ' neared Rrishane this afternoon and *was moving south -at ten miles an hour, may accentuate t'he flood danger on the -horder. The weather hureau has issued flood warnings for the area between Port MacQuarie and Mclntyre. The State forecast is for general rain. Nine inches of rain in',the past, 48 hours have made Mogil on the Barwonj river, the wettest town in New South j Wales. _ Residents are marooned in houses surrounded with muj and water, j Two postmen have not been seen since [ they left town two days ago.

- with all approach roads unusuable, flood waters have isolated Brisbane. Pastures have been changed from dry grassless areas to muddy bogs and many sheep have been lost. Police and l'ifesavers today rescued a youth from a treetop near Bundaberg where flood waters had marooned him for 13 hours. The rescuers had to battle against the raging waters of the Greg- ; ory -river which -threatened to sweep, away the tree. After rocket equipment j was brought up, a party' in a dinghy managed to cross the flood and rescue' the youth. He said he had been trying to help his dog when he was forced to take shelter on a small island. The river rose fifteen feet and forced him into the tree.
