PREVIOUS CHAMPIONS STILL IN THE RUNNING WELLINGTON, Feb. II. With four rounds of the halfway . section stage coinpleted in the fours championship of th'e Dominiou bowlmg tournament, 37 fours have unbeaten records and (i8 have had one loss. The weather was again brilliantly fine to day and the greens very fast. Previous champions still unbeaten are Bremner (Epsom), Squire '(Ha wera), White (Runanga), Wilson (Mt. Eden) and Livingstone (Onehunga) Exelby (Frankton Junction) the only competitor still in the singles and pairs, has four wins. Spearnian (Christchurch R.S.A.) had liis flrgt loss during the day. Unbeaten fours, in addition to those already meutioned, are Wardrop (Victoria), Oorby (Ellerslie). Miteheli (Blenheim), Higgison (Featherston), Gardner (Invercargill), Mc Olymont (Ponsonby), Reid (Masterton), Clinkard (St. John's), Walker (Gisborne), Watts (Hataitai), Fleming (Newtown), Spurdle (Inglewood), Henry ((Sydenham), Reid (Lyall Bav), Johnsou (Port Ahuriri), t Adams (Karori), Fuller (Waitara), Barton (Ivia Toa, Hastings), Mclnnes (Temuka), Bell (Patea;, Raft'les (Onehunga), Field (Karori), ia Frenz (Maitai), Hawkins (Paritutu). Wvatt (Karori), Culien (Tliomdon), McCullough (Oarltonj, Lambess (Whangarei), and Claridge (St. Kilda). Prominent aiuong the fours with three wins ara Hadwin (Hutt), Benson (Balmoral), Jenkin (Carlton), Dieksoii (Khandallah), Efford (Edgeware), and Giles (United). Haworth (Uanterbury), twice a former champion, recovered from his bad start on the first day by securing two good wins today. Franks (Balmoral), 1939 champion, dropped one matcli to make his tally two wins and two losses. J. J. Bell (Patea) played the greatest number of ends on one match so far in the tournament against Woburn. On the 25th eud the score was 21 all. Three extra ends were required before Bell got the winning shot. (Spearman 's defeat was at the hands of 0. Haworth (Wanganui East), sou of R. Haworth (Oanterbury). White 's champion Runang'a four had a liard tussle with Clarkson (Fendalton). White led 25 — 21 after the 24th end. On the 25th end Clarkson was lying two. Next, Arnistrong, Runanga No. 3, killed the end. On the replay Clarkson secured one to level the scores. The extra head saw some brilliant bowls. ' Two touchers by Ussher, • Clarkson 's lead, were displaced by Gourlay, No. 2 for Runanga, with a beautiful bowl. Runanga were one-up whon the skips went baek and Olark'son was unable to alter the position. White winning by a single point. 0 'Neill (Runanga) led Flemmg (Newtown) by three when the 25th end began. The latter scotclied four to snatch an exciting victory. Though O 'Neill is still plaving for his old ciuo he is no w a resident of Auckland. Dickson's (Khandalla) . four whicli reached the final 12 last year, lost one match to Bennett (Hastings) but showed excellent'form in other games.
