Nearing Completion Work on the construction of the temporary telephone exchange behind the Levin Post' Office is nearing completion, and the contractors estimate that they w.ill have the building ready for painting within a fortnight. Donation To Memorial: Fund Appreciation of a gesture uy the Levin District Committee of* the W.W.S.A. in handing over their funds amounting to £13 9s 2d to the Memorial Committee of the Levin branch of the R.S.A. was expressed at a meeting of the latter committee last night. A letter from the secretary of the W.W.S.A. pointed out that as they had disbanded, the money was no longer required. "This is a very nice gesture," 'said ihe chairman. Mr. H. J. Two Men Burned While a Lockheed was being overhauled in a hangar at the Milson aerodrome yesterday a fire, the result «f some volatile substance catching alight, occurred inside the plane. Before the fire was effectively 'dealt with by the staff with foam spray, two men had received burns which necessitated their removal to hospital. The fire was ruppressed before the arrival of the Palmerston North Fire Brigade and it is understood that the plane was damaged to only a minor extent. What Is Government Valuation? "What is this 'Government valuation'? asked Hon. Mj\ Justice Johnston in the Supreme Court at Palmerston North yesterday in a land saies case in which it was allegsd an owner had agreed to aecept Government valuation for his farm stock. Last month it suffered a hip injury believed to have been caused by a fall. School Patrol Praised "School patrols and the children themselves are doing an outstanding job in road safety," said Traffic Inspector M. Kehoe, speaking to members of the Levin Rolary Club yesterday. "We have had a great deal of success with the patrol in Levin, where the school ?s unfortunate enough to be on Ihe main road. Last year I did not have to speak to members of the patrol or children on one occasion. Motorists are playing their part, and only one has been prosecuted for disregarding the patrol in the two years since it was established."
